Indie Romance Rules the Land: Surrender by Helen Hardt

There’s some major shake up this week because an indie romance has come out of left field and risen to the top, almost unseating Paula Hawkin’s Into the Water from the top spot for adult fiction romance. At the NYT Combined fiction list, Paula is still #1, but has dropped to #4 on the USA Today. Into the Fire sold over 29,000 print copies, making her combined sales close to 45,000. The indie romance to have broken out is Helen Hardt’s Surrender- #2 on NYT Combined, but #1 on the USA Today. (GO ROMANCE) Helen has hit the USA Today before, but Surrender is her best charting book to date. Based on this, I would say Surrender sold in the 40,000 range, mainly in digital. We’ll have to watch how Surrender does in week two sales.

Another notable authors who did well this week are Lee Child’s Night School (near 40,000 in sales) and Tami Hoag’s The Bitter Season (around 20,000 in sales). In terms of romance, Susan Wiggs, Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel, and Debbie Macomber also sold 10,000 in sales or higher.

Over at the USA Today top 100, things start for romance at the top spot with Surrender by Helen Hardt.

Amazon: Hunting Beauty by Madison Faye, .99 cents Military Romance

This is no fairytale, and I’m no prince. And there are much more dangerous things in these woods than big bad wolves or poisoned apples. Things like me.
They’ll say this is wrong.

They’ll say she’s too young for me – that she’s too untouched.

They’ll say a sweet and innocent princess like her has no business being anywhere near a roughneck soldier like me.

They’re right.

But poisoned apple or not, I’ve had a taste of her forbidden fruit, and I’ll be damned if I’m not after another bite.

She should run away. She should say no. But she seems to be having a problem saying anything but yes to the things I want to show her.

Very, very bad things.

Her father, my King, wants to send her to suitor’s ball to find a husband. Royal or not, I’ll show these fancy, frilly princes what a real man is, and I’ll show her how a real man claims his woman.

Princess Adele might not’ve been looking for trouble when she stepped into my woods, but she’s about to find it.

Every inch of it.

Amazon: Mr. Fiancé by Lauren Landish, .99 cents and Comedic Romance

It’s fake, but it feels so good.

Oliver Steele is supposed to be my knight in shining armor. He’s tall, handsome, and as cocky as he is rich. With his good looks and charm, no one’s going to suspect a thing. No one’s going to believe our engagement is fake.

But he’s taking this thing way too far. The way he wraps his arm around me like I’m his. The way he kisses me and presses his hard body up against mine. I almost believe that it’s real. Almost.

He’s doing it on purpose now; he loves that this is getting to me.

Two can play his game, I won’t let him win. By the time our week together is done, I’ll leave Oliver on his knees and begging.

But the minute we’re alone in the bedroom, I know I’m in over way my head. When he undresses me with his eyes, I realize I lost before the game even started. It’s only a matter of time before I lose myself in his touch and let him do whatever he wants to me.

I know what I want, but I can’t tell what’s real anymore.
