Hen Night aka The Bachelorette Party...

Dec 5, 2008 by

Tomorrow night is my sister’s bachelorette party. Her big day is Saturday, January 10th. The picture above is what I may be feeling like the next day. Where did the idea for bachelorette parties comes from? From Wikipedia:The bachelorette party is consciously modeled after the centuries-old bachelor’s party, which is itself historically a dinner given by the bridegroom to his friends shortly before his wedding.Although the practice of giving a party to honor the bride-to-be goes back for centuries, in its modern form, the bachelorette party may have begun during the sexual revolution of the 1960s. It was uncommon until at least the mid-1980s, and the first book on planning bachelorette parties wasn’t published until 1998. Its cultural significance is largely tied to concepts of gender equality. Compared to the bridal shower, which helps...

Slippery When Wet **Guest Book Review**...

Dec 5, 2008 by

Tracy of Tracy’s Place so kindly decided to do a guest review here. She picked Kimberly Raye’s Slippery When Wet (Love Spell). Did she enjoy this NASCAR romance? Let’s find out… Jaycee Anderson is the first female to take the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit by storm, and after finishing fourth overall last season, she has her eyes on the prize: knocking Rory Canyon out of the number three spot. She’ll do anything to see the job done, too, even transform herself from a tomboy into a glamour queen if that’s what it takes to get sponsorship and the edge. Rory’s the kind of infuriating chauvinist who’s just begging to get the pants beat off him by a woman – on the track, at least; Jaycee’s fairly sure he’s never had to beg anywhere else....

Yet Another Reason I Am Not a Fan of Robert Pattinson...

Dec 4, 2008 by

Ana from The Book Smugglers brought this Yahoo article to my attention: Actor Robert Pattinson is baffled by the obsessed fans of vampire movie Twilight – because he openly admits he “doesn’t get it” The star has been catapulted to stardom thanks to his role as Edward Cullen in the movie, and fans worldwide are going crazy for the actor. But Pattinson admits he doesn’t understand the craziness of the story, despite reading the “addictive” books. He tells GMTV, “The extent to which I’ve seen the insanity around this story, I don’t get it. “I read the book and the whole series and I can understand they’re very addictive but seeing the extent to which some people are just obsessed. I mean people yesterday at the premiere, some were like ‘I’ve come from Brazil...

Just the Sexiest Man Alive Power Puff Review...

Dec 3, 2008 by

Lately Bubbles (Ana from Book Smugglers) and I have been on a bad track record with the books we have been reviewing. The last two books that were reviewed for our Puff reviews have been big downers. Would we ever be able to get out of the “ho hum” book blues we have found ourselves in? Was there one book out there that would allow us to crawl out of that hole, and let us see the light and bring us great joy? YES! We both found a book that we loved to pieces, and that is new author to arrive on the scene, Julie James, with her adorable, funny and sweet, Just the Sexiest Man Alive. I have read some fabulous reviews for this book and asked Bubbles if she would be on...

Coming to a bookstore near you in May 2009 (NAL) from erotic romance author, Colette Gale! Michelle Buonfiglio of Romance: B(u)y the Book has an ultra hot excerpt posted! If Gale’s Sheriff is anything like Alan Rickman from the movie Prince of Thieves, or let’s say Guy of Gisborne from BBC’s Robin Hood, you know who I would choose! . This is a good reason to post a Richard...

Misty-Eyed

An interesting thing happened to me over the Thanksgiving holiday that really opened my eyes in ways I never thought possible. I have my moments where I tend to get a bit depressed, well rather lonesome really. Don’t we all? In part, this is because as I grow older, those around me do also, and I know they won’t always be around. I worry about my parents and their health problems and every holiday season I am so grateful I have their support and love. I wonder if I will ever have my own family to celebrate the holidays with or will become this little old lady with no one. My younger sister is getting married in January, and again, a feeling of loneliness overcomes me because I am very much a spinster. If...
