NaNoWriMo Week 2: Going the Distance...

Nov 15, 2008 by

It is now week two of NaNo and I am smack in the middle of writing Valli Nyx’s biography. Lately, she hasn’t been too pleased with me. She doesn’t bite my hands any more, but has this tendency to push me even when I don’t want to write. I guess in a way it is a good thing because without her bothering 24/7 I wouldn’t have the dedication to write. That doesn’t stop me from whining to Valli Nyx. “I want to read my book!”, “Look! HGTV has this great special I just need to watch about remodeling your house!” or “VH1 classic has the top 100 greatest songs of all time I must sit watch this marathon even though I have seen it 5 times already”. But Valli Nyx is a cold hard...

Less Than A Week To Go… Twilight Movie Madness...

Nov 14, 2008 by

A week from today the Twilight movie hits the theaters and it looks like it is going to be huge! Did you hear about what happened at the Stonetown Galleria in San Francisco, Ca? “Robert Pattinson, star of the film “Twilight,” appeared Monday evening at the Hot Topic store at the Stonestown Galleria in San Francisco; people began lining up at 3 a.m. in hopes of getting one of the 500 wristbands being sold for the event. When the crowd grew to 3,000 and began to get out of hand, police shut it down…” And perhaps you heard of plans for this: With Summit Entertainment preparing to release its big bet “Twilight,” the studio is moving potential future installments in the franchise into the development pipeline. The company has acquired rights to the next three...

The Price of Desire by Jo Goodman **Powerpuff Review**...

Nov 13, 2008 by

When Bubbles (Ana from Book Smugglers) recommended Jo Goodman’s latest, The Price of Desire as our next Power Puff review, Blossum was not too keen on this pick. (Buttercup (Thea) is still being sexed up by Batman, so she is too just too tired to join in) Her experience with Jo Goodman has not been a good one. The last one she read by Goodman was in 2003 when her Everything I Ever Wanted was released. This was one disturbing read. Blossum never has a fun time reading a book by Goodman especially when there is icky incest involved. She was not surprised that Everything I Ever Wanted had this wacky plot with the heroine’s brother lusting after her, while she trying to become an opera singer. Not only does insane, obsessed brother paints...

The Englor Affair by JL Langley **Review**...

Nov 12, 2008 by

I first found out about gay romance author, J.L. Langley, from Lisabea of Nose in a Book. She could not stop praising about Langley’s sci-fi regency male romance called My Fair Captain. Because of her recommendation, I read My Fair Captain, and was blown away. I have read gay romance in the past, but the majority of them were just ho-hum reads. J.L. Langley writes scorching hot and passionate love stories between two men that are just as good as the straight romances I read. When I heard she was writing a sequel to My Fair Captain, I could barely contain my excitement. If The Englor Affair would be as well written and romantic as My Fair Captain, then J.L. would be one author I could always count on for wonderful romance regardless of...

Guess Who is Reading the Twilight Series?...

Nov 11, 2008 by

How cool is this? From MTV.com: President-Elect Obama Reads ‘Twilight,’ President-Elect Barack Obama truly has a full plate. Revitilize a sinking economy. Energize a nation. Rehabilitate America’s fragile standing in the world. Oh, and get through four “Twilight” books with his youngest daughter. Yes, according to the latest issue of US Weekly, Stephenie Meyer has a couple fans who will be moving into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in a couple months. The magazine reports that the President-Elect and his ten-year-old daughter Malia often bond over addictive book series, “They read all the Harry Potter books together and have moved on to the Twilight series.” I wonder if he is for “Team Edward” or “Team...

Steampunk. The Next Big Thing in Romance?...

Nov 10, 2008 by

“My object has been to depict the earth, and not the earth alone, but the universe, for I have sometimes taken my readers away from earth, in the novel. And I have tried at the same time to realize a very high ideal of beauty of style. It is said that there can’t be any style in a novel of adventure, but it isn’t true…” – Jules Verne Have you heard about Steampunk making a comeback in the publishing world? It seems that the next big thing in romance will be Steampunk Romance. So, the big question is, what is Steampunk? From Wikipedia: Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam...
